Simple words
Same receptor family as melanotan 2 (melanocortin receptors in the brain). This chain was tuned more toward sexual function than toward a tan. Palatin developed it. The approved shot is Vyleesi, for premenopausal women with hypoactive sexual desire disorder, under a doctor.
What it is
A cyclic peptide. Cousin of melanotan 2, not the same vial. Nausea is still a common trial side effect. Blood pressure can go up after a dose — that is on the drug label.
What researchers studied
Human sexual-function trials. FDA approved Vyleesi in 2019 for that one labeled use. A research vial labeled PT-141 is not the approved autoinjector.
