Why Storage Matters
Peptides are delicate molecules that can degrade quickly when exposed to heat, light, or moisture. Proper storage directly impacts:
- Potency - Degraded peptides lose effectiveness
- Safety - Contamination risks increase with improper handling
- Value - Extending shelf life protects your investment
Unreconstituted (Lyophilized) Peptides
Before adding water, peptides come as a freeze-dried powder. This form is relatively stable.
Storage Requirements
| Short-term (weeks) | Refrigerator (2-8°C / 36-46°F) |
| Long-term (months) | Freezer (-20°C / -4°F) |
| Shelf life | 1-2 years when frozen properly |
Key points:
- Keep vials sealed until ready to reconstitute
- Store away from light (original packaging helps)
- Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles
- Let vials warm to room temperature before opening
Reconstituted Peptides
Once you add bacteriostatic water, the clock starts ticking. Reconstituted peptides are much more fragile.
Critical Rules
- Always refrigerate - Never leave at room temperature
- Use within 2-4 weeks - Some peptides degrade faster
- Never freeze reconstituted peptides
- Keep upright - Avoid shaking or dropping
Peptide-Specific Shelf Life
Different peptides have different stability profiles when reconstituted:
| Peptide | Reconstituted Stability |
|---|---|
| BPC-157 | 2-4 weeks refrigerated |
| TB-500 | 3-4 weeks refrigerated |
| GHRPs (Ipamorelin, etc.) | 3-4 weeks refrigerated |
| CJC-1295 | 2-3 weeks refrigerated |
| Melanotan II | 4-6 weeks refrigerated |
Note: These are general guidelines. Always check with your specific source for their recommendations.
Bacteriostatic vs. Sterile Water
The type of water you use affects how long reconstituted peptides last:
Bacteriostatic Water
Contains 0.9% benzyl alcohol as preservative
- Lasts 2-4 weeks
- Inhibits bacterial growth
- Preferred for peptides
Sterile Water
Pure water with no preservatives
- Use within 24-48 hours
- No bacterial protection
- Single-use only
Signs of Degradation
Discard peptides that show these warning signs:
- Cloudiness - Solution should be clear
- Particles - No floaters or sediment
- Color change - Should remain colorless
- Unusual smell - Most peptides are odorless
Track Vial Expiration Dates
PepMaxx automatically tracks when you reconstituted each vial and alerts you before they expire. Never waste peptides again.

Quick Storage Checklist
- Unreconstituted: Freezer for long-term, fridge for short-term
- Reconstituted: Always refrigerate, use within 2-4 weeks
- Use bacteriostatic water, not sterile water
- Keep away from light and heat
- Don't shake - gentle swirl only
- Label vials with reconstitution date
- Discard if cloudy, discolored, or past expiration
